CORN SILAGE

CORN SILAGE is our flagship product, known as the king of fodders across the world in both dairy and beef enterprises, this energy dense, cost effective fodder lives up to its name. At FFA, we have fine tuned our practises, micromanaging every step of production we have evolved the finished product to become the only exporters of corn silage in Australia. Our fine chopped, baled corn silage is exported to countries across Southeast Asia, used by livestock producers in dairy and beef operations.

Lucerne or alfalfa silage

Lucerne silage

Lucerne or Alfalfa silage, grown under irrigation on the banks of the Murray River, then fine chopped and factory baled is of premium quality to livestock producers. Again, we have evolved this product. Using in cab NIR moisture meters on the forage harvester we can push the limits of high dry matter silage, using a combination of quality inoculants supplied by Lallemand Australia. Lallemand assists in a fast fermentation process at high dry matter. With proteins recorded between 22 – 25%, and high palatability for all livestock, our fine chopped lucerne silage is an excellent protein source.

Harvesting fine chop silage

Formula Forage Australia’s director spent 7 years in Southern Alberta Canada as an owner operator chopping corn and cereal silage for dairies and feedlots to the East and South of Calgary. Spending 1000’s of hours in the cab of a forage harvester and revisiting clients through Canada’s long winter instilled critical best practice methods required to produce high quality silage and became the foundation of what we do today at Formula Forage Australia.

We use late model forage harvesters manufactured by Claas. Equipped with NIR forage analysis and in cab display.
Crops are grown under contract by nearby farmers drawing irrigation water from the Murray River. Fresh cut fodder is then transported 20 – 30 km to FFA’s factory. Here it is baled at 3500 psi using stationary compactors that produce 1200mm x 1200mm round bales and wrapped with silage film manufactured in Switzerland. Product for export is warehoused inside.
Some fodder is compacted into large concrete bunkers and baled at a later time. This is covered using an oxygen barrier film and then a 200 micron UV barrier film over top.
